Class 3 visit to Spennymoor Town Hall

On Tuesday 21 May Class 3 visited Spennymoor Town Hall to see the Durham Mining Museum and Bob Abley Art Gallery. The children were very grateful to all the volunteers who showed them around and answered all their questions.

UK Chess Challenge 2019 Megafinal

On Saturday 18 May six children from our school took part in the Northumbria Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge 2019 at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. The children played very well and were, as always, a credit to our school. Many thanks to the parents who attended for their support on the day.

Class 1 visit to St Peter’s Church

Class 1 had a lovely afternoon visiting St Peter’s Church in Byers Green on Tuesday 14 May. The children were very grateful to Rev Friswell for taking the time to show them around the beautiful building and answer all their questions.

Barnabas RE Day

On Tuesday 30 April each class took part in workshops based around the theme of ‘Exploring Christianity around the world’ led by Chris Hudson from Barnabas in Schools.  At an age-appropriate level the children were able to:

  • explore in depth how the Christian faith is lived out in other countries
  • understand Christianity as a living world faith
  • use interactive and reflective activities to find out how Christianity began and developed
  • learn about Christianity today in countries such as Ethiopia, Argentina, Spain and Russia
  • compare differences and similarities in Christian faith and worship, as well as the key beliefs that are common across the world.

Class 2 visit to Durham Castle

Class 2 had a great day visiting Durham Castle on Thursday 25 April. The children really enjoyed touring the building and finding out about its features and history. They also loved making their own castles out of cardboard boxes!

UK Chess Challenge 2019

A huge well done to the 36 children from KS2 who took part in the school stage of this annual chess competition throughout the spring term. The highest scorers in each category (14 children in total) have qualified for the regional stage which is known as the Megafinal. This will take place on Saturday 18 May at the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle. We wish them all the best of luck!

We have received a grant to buy a greenhouse and some gardening equipment for our developing school allotment. We are so grateful to one of our grandparents and family for building it for us.
