Music at Byers Green
At Byers Green Primary, we recognise Music provides our children with key skills to build their confidence and offer opportunities to shine. At Byers Green we believe Music teaching should inspire a love of music. We offer a journey of discovery beginning from FS and extending into KS 2. This is implemented by providing our children with a wide range of music embedded in the curriculum including historical music, world music, traditional music and encouraging the children to develop their own personal compositions. Our children will be provided with opportunities to appraise music, sing as part of a group, participate in a performance and play a range of instruments. They are also given the tools to evaluate and compose their own musical pieces. We use Charanga as the foundation of our curriculum. This scheme offers a wide range of genres and opportunities to explore music together.
Children in Key Stage 2 receive recorder lessons taught by a specialist teacher from Durham Music Service during Autumn Term and violin tuition is offered on a fee-paying basis.
All Key Stage 2 children are welcome to join the School Choir, participating in community events such as the Byers Green Carol Service and the Summer Carnival.
Music in Foundation Stage
In the Reception, music is woven into daily life. Children are taught traditional songs and rhymes, whilst also being offered opportunities for experimentation and shared musical experiences. Children are given the opportunity to experience, listen, sing and dance to music. Children can demonstrate musical expression, preference and confidence when creating their own musical experiences.
