English
Explain that the children are going to write the story they planned yesterday. Remind children that a story needs to have a beginning, a middle and an end.
Parents/ carers: It is very important for young children to rehearse what they are going to write by saying it aloud before writing it down so please encourage your child to do this. Also encourage them to keep re-reading as they write to check that it makes sense. You might want/need to help with spelling. Thank you!
We are going to complete the story tomorrow so please don’t feel that it has to be finished today! In school, we certainly wouldn’t expect children to write a whole story in one lesson.
I have written a possible story opener which children might want to use or take ideas from:
Once upon another misty morning, Sir Charlie Stinky Socks was woken by a loud roar and the flapping of giant wings. He jumped out of bed and peered out of his window and there was his friend the dragon, with a sad look on his bright green face.
“The princess has got lost in the Magical Forest!” sobbed the dragon. “You must rescue her!”
Y1: Children to begin to write their story on the proforma / worksheet provided.
Challenge: Some Y1 children might feel confident enough to write their story without using a proforma / worksheet; if this is the case, your child can write his / her story straight into their Home Learning book.
Y2: Children to begin to write their story in their Home Learning book.
I expect Y2 children to use adjectives, noun phrases and more complex punctuation in their stories such as exclamation marks and commas in lists!

Think about all of the things we have learned about castles this half-term then design a lovely poster for our display wall. Use the worksheet dated 11.2.21 – you might want to practise first in your Home Learning book.
