On the afternoon of Thursday 20 June 2019 we had a whole school music concert with singing, recorders, ukuleles and violins. Everyone had a great time! Many thanks to Mrs Coulls (our Durham Music Service teacher) for organising the event.
Play in a day
On Wednesday 19 June 2019 Class 4 worked with Shelley O’Brien (Lynx Theatre in Education) to learn, rehearse and perform ‘The Mayan Mystery’ in the space of a few hours. The children were amazing and they performed so well in front of the rest of the school. Well done to everyone involved!
Class 3 tour of historic Byers Green
On Monday 17 June 2019 Class 3 went on a tour of Byers Green looking for evidence of what the village was like when the colliery was in operation. Many thanks to Mr Henderson and Mrs Palmer for sharing their knowledge of the history of the village with us.
Class 1 visit to Washington Wetland Centre
Class 1 had a great day at the Washington Wetland Centre on Thursday 13 June 2019. They really enjoyed hunting for minibeasts, pond-dipping and finding out all about theAsian short-clawed otters and the Chilean flamingos from the centre staff.
Kingswood residential
Children from Y4-Y6 had an amazing time at Dukeshouse Wood, Hexham from Monday 10 – Wednesday 12 June 2019. They would like to thank the school and centre staff for making it such an enjoyable experience.
Kwik cricket

Class 3 visit to Spennymoor Town Hall
On Tuesday 21 May Class 3 visited Spennymoor Town Hall to see the Durham Mining Museum and Bob Abley Art Gallery. The children were very grateful to all the volunteers who showed them around and answered all their questions.
UK Chess Challenge 2019 Megafinal
On Saturday 18 May six children from our school took part in the Northumbria Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge 2019 at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. The children played very well and were, as always, a credit to our school. Many thanks to the parents who attended for their support on the day.
Class 1 visit to St Peter’s Church
Class 1 had a lovely afternoon visiting St Peter’s Church in Byers Green on Tuesday 14 May. The children were very grateful to Rev Friswell for taking the time to show them around the beautiful building and answer all their questions.
