Tag rugby festival
On Tuesday 15 October 2019 ten of our Y5/6 children represented our school at a tag rugby festival taking place at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club. Conditions were extremely wet and muddy but that just seemed to add to the fun! The children all gave of their best and we were very proud that they were awarded the ‘Respect’ certificate in recognition of their endeavours.
Skipping day
We had a great day on Thursday 10 October 2019 when skipping coach Gail Robinson came in to our school to deliver a skipping session for each class. The children all had a fabulous time and Gail commented to our staff how impressed she was with the children’s behaviour as well as the resilience they displayed when they initially found some of the new skills difficult to master. Well done Team BG!
Harvest
Once again, we celebrated the Harvest Festival on two separate occasions.
On Sunday 29 September 2019 our school choir attended the service at Byers Green Methodist Church. The children read a poem and a bible story and sang two harvest songs for the congregation. As always, the children performed to a high standard and we were very proud of them.
On Thursday 3 October 2019 parents, family and friends were invited to share our special harvest assembly. Each class delivered their own short section. There was a mixture of singing, dancing, harvest facts and a story – some of the contributions were even delivered in Spanish! Many thanks to the children and staff for putting together such a wonderful show.
European Day of Languages
On Thursday 26 September we celebrated the European Day of Languages across our school. We linked it to the teams taking part in the Rugby World Cup. Each class learned about one of the Home Nations (England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland) as well as one of the other European countries (Russia, Italy, France, Georgia). The children enjoyed learning something new about the language and culture of their chosen countries.
Bikeability
Between Monday 23 and Thursday 26 September 2019 our Y5/6 children took part in bikeability training sessions. Initially the children were taught basic bicycle control skills on our school playground. They then moved on to quiet risk-assessed roads near to our school where they learned about the best position to ride on the road, how to pass parked cars and how to do left and right turns into both major and minor roads. We were proud to be awarded a certificate for being involved in this vital scheme.
